ACCOMPANIST WORKSHOPS

"The Art and Ministry of the Accompanist"

  • Well suited for:
  • Church music workshops and reading sessions
  • Denominational, publisher or bookstore events
  • Regional church events
  • Individual churches
  • Accompanist workshops cover the principles of effective church accompanying, drawing on experiences in a wide variety of situations. Workshops can be designed as one-on-one sessions with an individual church's pianist and/or organist (or electronic keyboard players), or multiple accompanists, either from one church or many churches. Workshops also are given at regional, state or national church music gatherings, as well as publisher or bookstore-sponsored church music events.

  • Workshops are tailored as much as possible to the needs of the participants. When that is not known in advance, the prepared plan may be altered so as to cover the interests of most of the participants.

  • Topics that can be covered are many! Several typical areas usually of interest are:
  • Enhancing the hymn accompaniment
  • Seamless transitions and modulations
  • The unique challenges of the praise service
  • Ear-playing and improvisation
  • Developing the contemporary style
  • Using electronic keyboards creatively and effectively
  • Effective organ registration and technique
  • The organist and contemporary worship
  • Choir rehearsal tips 'n tricks
  • Soloist accompanying
  • And much more!
  • Along with nuts and bolts, the concept of the accompaniment ministry is covered.
